Rosy-Faced Lovebird

This 'n' That

28 Jul

This cute little Rosy-Faced Lovebird has been hanging out in our backyard lately. Jeff saw two of them last week and finally I have been seeing her/him. I have only seen the one..or at least just one at a time. Maybe the other one is on the nest? I always say that hummingbirds and quail are my favorite birds, but now I am also saying lovebirds.

From wikipedia: The rosy-faced lovebird (Agapornis roseicollis), also known as the rosy-collared or peach-faced lovebird, is a species of lovebird native to arid regions in southwestern Africa such as the Namib Desert. Loud and constant chirpers, these birds are very social animals and often congregate in small groups in the wild. They eat throughout the day and take frequent baths. Coloration can vary widely among populations. Plumage is identical in males and females. Lovebirds are renowned for their sleep position in which they sit side-by-side and turn their faces in towards each other. Also, females are well noted to tear raw materials into long strips, “twisty-tie” them onto their backs, and fly substantial distances back to make a nest. These birds are common in the pet industry.

All the birds love Jeff’s bird feeder, he made a new one last year or so that allows him to see when it needs filled.

Isn’t she so cute. These couple pictures were taken from the porch I went out really slow and she just stayed there…or course these are using a zoom, I was not this close. She has a loud chirp and maybe I will get a video again sometime when I am outside, I just don’t want to scare her so she never comes back.

I love seeing all her colors and look at her cute little blue butt.

A Cute Little video:

Isn’t that so sweet? I hope the neighbors cat never get her. I will be so mad, we are always shooshing them away from our yard.

You won’t believe it, I went out today and she was singing to me…maybe someday she will come to me but for now I will listen to her from a far, but I was pretty close to her this time.

Added since original post:

2 Rosy-Faced Lovebirds at the backyard feeder

Jeff got a picture of the two of them this morning, we had not seen her since the storm and she showed up with her friend the other day and we never got a picture. The one of the fence seems to have rounded tail feathers, so this might a new one…maybe this is the girl and she has a nest?

I love how he/she is looking at her/him. I am sure someone would be able to tell who is who but they look the same not like other birds that you can tell.

Now he is like well if you are going to keep grooming yourself I am going to eat, so maybe that is the girl primping her feathers?

Updated Again:

And then there were three!!!

a photo of a brown-crested flycatcher

Then this little guy flew into the yard and I was like what is he? He kinda reminded me of the Roadrunner we get in the yard the way he made his hair stand up, so I thought maybe he was a baby roadrunner. But I used my phone and it came up as a Brown-Crested Flycatcher. Well I hope he lives up to his name cause I hate flies.

a photo of a bullock's oriole

Oh I also forgot about these pictures I took a bit ago, this one above is a Bullock’s Oriole and so pretty and much smaller than the oriole I have seen before.

a photo of a hummingbird

And I always love seeing the hummers, they will buzz around our heads. Did you ever see the video where I fed one? It is a really old video.

It isn’t all Stamping all the time!

I hope you enjoyed this fun post from the views in my backyard. I always wish my studio had a window but then I would never get anything done.
