Break (Bread) From the Norm

This 'n' That

3 Apr

Bread

OK, so I have been reading about sourdough starters and I thought I would ask you faithful reader. Have you ever done one, started one?

If so I would love to see your favorite recipes and tips that you have done. What worked for you, what didn't?

I do not have fancy flour (I have bleached All Purpose kind) or yeast at home. I am not going to the grocery store. So maybe it won't even work.

I remember years ago (I mean we lived in our first apartment as newlyweds – so yeah that was 35 years ago!) I did this but someone gave me the starter stuff already in a bag or jar, I have never started one…so I am anxiously awaiting to hear from you.

I made two loaves of sourdough bread (whole wheat and date nut) every week for over a year, but dumped the starter out last summer. We loved the bread, but it was more than we could eat and I was using LOTS of flour to feed the starter and make the loaves. I will email you the information I have. (I ordered starter from the King Arthur website. I tried starting my own, but could get it to activate.)

I regret losing my Grandmother's recipe. However Gemma at biggerbolderbaking.com has a starter recipe that seems to be similar. I have not tried this recipe, yet, but I have tried many of her recipes & have never been disappointed. Good luck

Hi, my name is Diana Gibbs and I have been a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator since 1999. I never imagined getting up and talking to people, I am deaf (I wear hearing aids) so talking to strangers has never been a fun thing for me. But put a rubber stamp in my hand and I will talk to anyone.

I hope you can find inspiration and learn new and exciting things while you are here. If there is ever anything you want me to teach you, just let me know!
