I think I have mentioned before the significance of the time 11:11. If not here is a quick recap. My Granny would always read to 11:11 and then turn out the lights and go to sleep. Now she is in the home so I am sure she is not able to do this anymore. After my Poppa died, when we went to the cemetary to bury his ashes when we got back into the car the clock said 11:11 and I told Granny that Poppa was sending her a message. I can't tell you how many times I see 11:11 on the clock and I don't mean I see 11:10 and I sit and wait for it to change, I mean I am doing whatever and just look at the clock and there it is. I smile and say "Hi Poppa" and then what is weird is sometimes immediately after I say that it turns to 11:12 and I think he is answering me. Yeah I know crazy, but still makes me feel good.
So Sunday I am in the house and I look at my cell phone and it said 11:11, then I looked at the oven and microwave and they both said it even though I swear most of the time the clocks are never synced in the house. Then for some reason I checked the news on my phone which pulls up the temperature…and this is what it had on it.
Now lets hear the spooky music…that's weird eh? So anyway, I am like I better call Granny, I mean maybe this was a sign or something. So I called and she was at church, so I had to call back, and I talked to her a bit and she sounded awesome as usual. She has trouble hearing so she can't talk long. I think the home needs to get a better phone…come on already you got elderly people there that need to hear. But I thought I would share that. Do you have any numbers you watch for?
So I went to the doc today and I have aggravated the tendons in my arm, so I am to take it easy for 4 weeks…what? huh? does he know me? He gave me some meds, and a few exercsises to do so that my shoulder does not freeze up. I also had Mark come back and he is going to adjust my computer station as I know that is partly what is causing it, my arm is too high up for working the mouse and typing.
So since I could not stamp today, I baked instead. I have not made Hello Dolly Squares in years.
My favorite parts are the edge pieces, where it is extra gooey.
Of course I'll eat a whole piece and won't just stop at the edges…ha!
Here's the recipe. It's one of my Mum's.
Hello Dolly Squares
1/2 cup butter
1 cup graham cracker crumbs (I buy the boxes of crumbs, but I guess you could crush your own)
1 cup coconut
1 cup nuts
1 cup chocolate chips
1 can eagle brand condensed milk (this is different than evaporated milk)
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Melt butter in 9×9 pan. Sprinkle crumbs on butter and pat down. Sprinkle nuts, coconut, and chips in layers over crumb mixture. Pour the milk all over this evenly. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. Let me know what you think.
I shared this picture on Facebook yesterday, so in case you didn't see it over there.
Toby was feeling jealous with me taking pictures of the chickens and chukars so he found some of the staticky dimensionals backing and stuck it on his lip and said "see Mum, I am cute too!" What a love!
Have an awesome Tuesday and thanks for stopping in.
111 and 1111 … sequences of ones means angels are watching over.
Your post certainly got my attention this morning. The numbers I look for are 11:11 also. This is my birthday and last November 11th, I gave myself a birthday party to celebrate 11:11:11. I had family and friends over that I hadn't seen in years and I'm so glad I did this for myself. I turned 62 so no big deal on the age, but the date was great.
These squares look yummy but they look like they'd crack your teeth because they're so sweet! I took a look at your recipe and it doesn't call for sugar, so are they super teeth-cracking sweet? I guess I'll have to make them eh?!
I too have an affection for 11:11 and yell it out everythime it is on the clock! My sweety and I got married on November 11, 2011 at roughly 11:11am (is that cheesey?!)
Have a great day!!
I know I have told you before how much I enjoy your blog and your pics and your stories and now I want to tell you how much I love your Toby… I have a Pixi and a Holly and a Butch and a Karma…. I think you should take a look at my blog because I have put pics of them up on a page I did for the rugby in their SA rugby jersies.. I think they are very cute. Hope you are feeling a bit better…

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that notices times on the clock …. I look up and see 05:29 a lot, my birthday. I wish it was someone else's dates or something, so it would seem less selfish, LOL!
I had to laugh when I read your post about 11:11. Those are the exact same numbers that keep popping up for me. Only, I don't have a clue why. I will just say "Oh, there is that eleven eleven again.". So, now I will think of your granny when it happens. Hope you are feeling better real soon so you can get your convention swap cards done!
I agree with Toby, 1.He is cute, 2. You do ignore him more than the "girls"….haha. Love the story about 11:11….Totally believe. Thanks for sharing…
I think this is cool! I like finding interesting number sequences like when the total on a receipt is 19.92, the year I got married, etc…
Our family number on the clock is 12:34. I'm so glad your family has one too. Makes me feel normal (for once) ๐
I have always looked at 11:11 and made a wish…how funny! ๐ And Hello Dolly's are my dad's FAVORITE!!! I think I might have to go and make some myself now! ๐
Hi Di – I got the recipe for this desert from my SIL years ago. Her version, "Layered Cookies" is from the Lyon House (Salt Lake City) cookbook. The only difference in this version is they add 1 cup butterscotch chips and bake it in a 9" x 13" pan. I figured out the calories per square once, and decided to quickly forget the # as I'd never eat them again! You're right, the sides are a real treat!
Hi Diana
I couldn't believe it when I saw the title of your post because almost everyday when I think to check the time it's 11:11 or 1:11. I just thoughtt it was me. My family makes fun of me – they think I'm a freak. Like you it's not like I check it all the time (on a digital clock) but when I check the microwave or digital it's almost always 11:11. Freaky. Glad to know I'm in good company.
Alison
I thought I was the only one that saw the same time on the clock. Good to know it happens to someone else. LOL
My oldest son was born at 9:11pm. I see that on the clocks all the time. I haven't connected it to another loved one that has passed though.
I also see 12:34. I say 1-2-3-4 when I see it. I say that must be when I am going to die, Dec 2034. I would be 77 and that kinda young. I have 22 more yrs to go, if that's true.
I wonder if we will start seeing the times others have mentioned, now that they are brought to our attention???? ~Donna
I did get a chuckle out of your posting today…our number is 7:7:7 as we were married July 7, at 7:00 PM – lucky sevens! Funny how we all relate to these types of things that happen. Can't wait to try your recipe.
I have another comment (imagine that…) So my birthday, and all 3 kids' birthdays are on the 2nd…every 2 months…5-2, 7-2. 7-2. 9-2…so 2 is pretty much our number…and yes, I am leaving for Vegas today, actually! ๐
Hi Christine, you didn't leave an email address so I could not answer you. They did not crack my teeth but they are sweet, I am sure that milk and the chocolate chips and the coconut all have some sort of sugar in them.
A nice glass of cold milk goes good with them.
Hugs, Di
Can I tell you your stories just make my day! You have such a great ability to add a pinch of laughter to everything,. I think you should write a book as well as stamp. To heck with the tendon problem!! LOL (just kidding) Hope you can take it easy over the next little while!
Jennifer, Calgary
Hi Diana,
I also have a time that always seems to be noticed. 7:11 I was born at 7:11 pm. I feel a sense of peace and purpose and of God's love for me when I happen upon that time, because it makes me feel it's own of His ways of confirming my significance to Him. I notice it A LOT. I know it's more then just coincidence! HUGS TO YOU DIANA, so happy I was able to meet you once at Leadership! – Monica Wood
I'm not sure if I have a number like you but I tend to look at the clock when it is 1:11 or 11:11, not on purpose, it just happens. It's just like when I look at my cell to see if I've missed calls, it rings about a minute later. My son always says it's 9:11 when he glances at his alarm.
We call these Magic Bars. My recipe uses a 13×9 pan but the list of ingredients are the same.
I'm a 3 person…born on the 3rd and I'm the 3rd child in our family…so whenever I notice 3:33 on the clock I smile…it's kind of annoying though when I wake up at 3:33 in the morning…I still smile, but immediately roll over and go back to sleep!
LOVE the number story. That is so awesome.
I also LOVE your blog it is always so interesting and fun. The recipe sounds so good I just may have to try it.
I LOVE Toby. He is SO cute. I know I told you about my Murphy and Bailey(both yorkies)and the snake incident. Well, my Bailey and his little girlfriend Dollie are going to have puppies. Due July 23-25 sometime. I can not wait to see their cute little babies.
Interesting…my oldest son and daughter have wished each other a happy 11/11 for years everytime the clock showed that.
What is especially interesting is that I texted my daughter after reading this post to find out the significance of 11/11 for them – she texted back and asked if I sent the message because it was 11:11 p.m. I told her it was because of your post and I didn't realize the time! LOL
Diane, After reading your blog, I finished reading my e-mails, than looked up at the clock and OMG it was 11:11…No kidding!!! I just had to share that with you.
My number is 21 or sometimes 2 with several ones behind it. Our zip code, house number, phone number and car plates all have a 2 with at least one number one directly following it. And we didn't "request" any of those numbers!
I do think numbers have a special meaning-even if we don't know what it is!
Enjoy your blog and adventures!
I'm just catching up on posts. I loved the 11:11 story. It makes me smile. But I really loved seeing Toby's picture. I held my dog Jasper(Yorkie also) up so he could see the monitor and sang "Don't you wish you were hot like Toby?" Of course he thinks he is! LOL Aren't Yorkies the cutest! :0)
Love that you call them Hello Dollys! We call them that also and most people call them 7 layer bars or majic bars.
Connie
Hi there!! We also make this dessert but we call it HEAVEN because every piece is like a little bit of heaven!! Love your blog! ~Trayce
When I read that you were having trouble with your shoulder, I thought I would share a funny story. I too have had trouble with my shoulder off and when I mentioned it to my upline she too said she's been having pain in her shoulder. When my son heard this he said "I think you both have stampinitis!" Maybe he's on to something!
Hope your "stampinitis" gets better soon.
Smiles,
Stacey
I can't believe how far behind I was on your blog! Bad Kathy. Two things for you. 4:44 is my number that shows up way to often. That is in the a.m. For months, I would wake up, groan, roll over and look at the clock. 4:44 got really old really fast. Went to see my sister in MN and got woke up at, you got it, 3:44 a.m. Doing better lately. As for your Dolly bars, Pampered Chef (which I don't sell) has a new brownie pan that makes individual brownies. If you used it for Hello Dolly bars, all of them would have the crispy corners! Yummmm. I've ordered one, but don't have it yet. I'll try your bars in there. Missed you, sweetie.
Hey, Miss Di! It finally cooled off enough to bake my Hello Dolly bars in my new PC brownie pan. I blogged some pics and put in a link back here so they could get your recipe. Soooooo yummy!
