Whoo…

This 'n' That

19 Jan

…has a cold? Me! I hate being sick, although right now is a little bit of a scratchy throat, sneezing and a runny nose.  I have been taking tylenol cold and the zicam pills.  So hopefully it is a mild one.  Jeff had one while I was at Leadership and I am sure he gave me the germs when I got home.  I know it is important to share, but he really could have kept them, I would not have minded.

Those of you that know me, know I am kind of a germ freak.  I keep the gel sanitizer in my purse, and try to stay away from sneezing, boogery kids, wet hands, things like that.  Part of it is cause I am allergic to a lot of antibiotics, so when someone says "I have been on antibiotics", you can almost see me run from the room, holding my breath, carefully opening up the door with a kleenex as I leave!

When we were at MAMMa's, we were talking about this, and I think it was Dawn that asked if my house was really clean, and I was like no, I am the worst housekeeper.  I then explained to her, it is not MY germs I am scared of, it is everyone elses.

So tonight while I was cuttin' paper, someone knocked on my studio door and I opened it and looked through the crack and said "I'm ugly and sick" but luckily it was Jeff, and oddly he doesn't care. True love eh?

He said go get your camera…so I did. Now I wish I could remember who said they love looking at my critter pictures, cause I told her that there wouldn't be any for a while cause everything is in hibernation.  But look what is in the tree in the back yard.  It has been there probably a week or so, cause we have been finding white poop under the tree and figured it was from a pigeon.

Owl
Look at him or her.  I am so glad Jeff found him cause I think if I had of looked in the tree and saw those big eyes looking at me, I think I would have screamed.  But he just kept sitting there looking around.  He is about 8" tall, so not very big. I'm gonna call him Ferby.

Owl 1

Jeff says he probably roosts here during the day and then hunts at night. Look how he blends into the tree? Really freaky, and his eyes almost look green, but of course my stupid camera was taking horrible pictures.  What do you expect for a hundred bucks eh?

Added since original post: we are thinking, by googling and all that, that we think he is a Western or Eastern Screech Owl.

I took a bit of a video so you can see him moving around. You can hear the wind, we have been having some cold weather and a storm is headed in.

Well this sick old broad is gonna take a cold pill and go to bed a bit early tonight.

Have a great Tuesday and thanks for stopping in!

That is so cool! I love animals, all kinds really, but after getting up close and personal with a couple owls at our zoo here I really really like them. They are super cool when they turn their heads all the way around. You are super lucky to live where you always see such cool animals.

I hope you get over being sick soon. I have been sick for almost 3 weeks now (ever since I left Az) and it totally sucks.

This owl is gorgeous!!! I think I would have screamed too though, as much as I love them in my scrappy room, IRL I don't think they are as friendly.

Jeff and Diana, that owl is beautiful and SO stinkin' cool!! If it didn't move its head now and then, I would have thought you stuck a fake one in the tree! =)

Diana, hope your cold passes quickly and that you feel better very soon!

    Sending cyber hugs,

    Debbie

Yeah more critters!!! He or she is a really pretty owl. It reminds me of the old Tootsie Roll Pop commercials (don't know if you remember these since I'm not sure they aired in Canada) where the owl would say "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop? Lets see, one, two, CRUNCH!!!

    Hope you feel better soon!!

Very cool owl! Have you dug around to find out what kind he is?

I had a pair of barn owls living in my palm tree one year – they raised some young ones, and it was very cool to be coming home from walking my dog every evening and hearing them fly around (yes, they make noise when they fly – IF they're not trying to catch something).

Velvet was a kitten at the time, so I had to be very careful about letting her out in the evening, cause they WILL swoop down and get things that weigh less than five pounds (barn owls – not sure about the one you've got). Thank goodness she's a Persian and fluffs all up so she looked bigger than she was.

Sorry to hear you're sick. Get better fast!

I love it when critters come to visit. It looks like a Screech Owl. About two years ago I bought a Screech Owl nesting box for my yard because at night I would hear them outside my window. My DH climbed up into a tree to fasten this thing 10 feet up. So the first year now Owl but the squirrels loved it then this summer the bees thought it might be a nice place for them but before we could evict them they moved out. So now I am waiting and hoping that the Owl well decide to use the nesting box. I haven't seen any sign of them in the nest but now is their mating season through March, I will post a picture if they set up housekeeping. Andrea

What great pictures. We have a "resident" great horned owl who roosts on our TV antenna (we just can't take it down because of him). We've named him Mr. Hootie and he paid us a visit yesterday morning. Wish I could get a picture – always too dark.

Hi Di! We too have an Owl in our yard – but have never been able to capture him…LOVE the fact that even though it was SO WINDY in Arizona yesterday (I live South of you) that this little guy was able to stay in the tree……Don't you just LOVE living in Arizona? The wildlife is amazing here. Thanks for sharing. Kadie in Arizona
