But first I will post a quick card, that way if you are in a hurry and don't want to listen to my blabbering about the awards show you don't have to…who loves ya baby? Me!
This is another card from the shoebox swap, this was Monica Lerma's card.
Paper: Garden Green, Real Red, Merry Moments DSP, Whisper White, Old Olive
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Misc: Real Red wide grosgrain, metal edge circle tag, rhinestone brad
I know this is not the way it was originally made cause I remember when I did it that night, I was talking…surprising eh? me…talking…whoulda thunk it? But I got the middle part glued and was like oops, I layered it wrong. So since there are no mistakes in stamping, only design changes. It stays like it is.
All rightee then, let's get to the CMA's shall we? These are not in any particular order just as I remember, and please don't get mad if I say anything bad about your favorite singer, these are just my observations, and I am sure I missed some. I should have been taking notes.
Taylor Swift: opening for the show, the song excuse my french, sucked, and I am sick of the hair flinging. I mean I love some of her songs, but most of them are kinda juvenile (I mean that is all she knows) as they are about teenager love and angst, and well I am old, plus I don't think she performs in front of audiences very good. Her voice is awesome, but I am looking forward to her growing up.
Brooks & Dunn: They will be sadly missed. Loved that they were with (quoting my BFF Tracy) Z Top…ha!
Barbara Mandrell: She is as beautiful as ever, but at the beginning, she looked a little confused like she thought maybe she was gonna sing…or was that me? But Martina did her proud, and I actually got a tear in my eye when George Strait came on stage and sang too…cause was there an original guy that did that with Barbara?
Reba: Tracy and I were texting all night, she is 2 hours ahead, but Reba looked sexy as all get out, and loved the black nails, and she has made me realize, the treadmill starts tomorrow…I aint getting any younger.
Billy Currington: I love his People are Crazy song, you can't help but smile when he gets to that talking part in it.
The Judds: Ok well I am still eating tums to get over the acid reflux that immediately overtook me when they walked on stage. It was like Cruella Deville wax figure, and Punkin freak, I mean if you TVO'd, or DVR'd or taped, or maybe just close your eyes, I am sure it is burned into your retina like it is mine. Take a look at the color of Wynona, Naomi, Wynona…well whatever one the daughter is, look at her hands…normal color and then her face and neck….jack-o-lantern orange…sorry but freaks!!!
Lady Antebellum: These three are so good, Jeff and I were listening to their CD on the way to PHX this weekend.
Darius Rucker: He is such a great singer and love what he has brought to country, I also loved that he went to the fans to sing, and mingled, instead of singing to all the country singers…what a gem.
Sugarland: I much prefer their quicker paced, fun songs, over the serious ones. I mean this definitely showed vocal talent, but I wanna see fun…the year they sang with the conveyor belt…that was cool.
Jamey Johnson – new kid this year, Welcome back to the old ways of country, he seemed so honest to goodness sweet, and shy and man he can sing. I loved the song he sang with Kid Rock (and hey Kid I need my glasses back…thanks BFF for bringing those to my attention) he said he was single, and I told Jeff he will stay that way if he continues to wear those glasses.
Zac Brown: another new kid on the block, I love his Chicken Fried song, but why didn't they sing it? No they ruined The Devil Went Down to Georgia, Jeff and I just looked at each other and said "Shupe does that so much better".
Kelly Pickler: Goes to show you can't dye out stupid. You can dye out old though…..I did it last week.
Vince Gill & Chris Daughtery: Daughtery needs to stick with his style of music and Vince needs to retire. The awards were SOOOO boring when he hosted.
Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood: they make great hosts, and loved the spoofs and stuff, and the fun things they did. When Carrie started singing, I thought oops, I see London I see France, I see Carrie's underpants, but they turned out to be silver short shorts, in case you were missing them, she thrusted them out once in a while just to be on the safe side.
Plus I liked it when they used to honor the country and western people that we lost over the year, and maybe we didn't lose any and that is why they didn't do it. Cause I think I watched the whole show.
Well there ya have it, again, don't be mad at me for voicing my opinion. I would love to know what you thought of the show!
Oh and what was so cool is after the awards, my friend Mary Hoffman was on the news singing. Love her, some day she will be at the CMA's, and she will kick butt. Click around while you there, to make the singing come up. She sings one of my favorite songs she wrote…we jokingly call it the "Bar Song".
Have a great Thursday, I will be cutting paper……100 Top Note Chums…what was I thinking? Ha!
Thanks for stopping in!
OHMIGOD, I was just telling someone that Wy looked like Cruella Deville. That is funny how you thought that too! I love those ladies, but man, was that every scary!?! Especially when they showed the video from 25 years ago, they looked so normal then. Why can't people just age naturally, instead of turning their faces to plastic?
I so agree with you on everything but Taylor Swift!. She CANNOT sing. Everytime she sings live, she is SO off tune. That will never change no matter how mature/ages she does. Love your blog!
Did you notice the sugarland gal had bruises on her arm???? I checked out some previous videos to see if they were birthmarks or something, but the previous videos I looked at had nothing!!!!!?????
I can't believe I forgot it was on…I was nestled in my couch watching Criminal Minds. I'm sure it will be on CMT again though and I will watch it then…and then give you my feedback!
Luv ya
Jax
Steve reminded me (us) that we lost Waylan Jennings this year. and your Man Jamie Johnson and your Glasses Snitching Kid Rock sang a song about Jennings and Jones. But no dedication toward them.
I didn't want to ruin the two top awards for you last night BUT I was not Happy Taylor Swift won Entertainer of the Year! She so CAN NOT sing Live and Dang she's only just going out on her own tour. How can she get EOY???
Miss Carrie Underwood is just an unbelievable performer she can even sing a JOKE well. She has so much class and sings with such ease. Reminds me of the way Reba has carried herself over the years.
Brad Paisley… great all the way around!! Singer, performer, husband (cept for pointing to the wrong women when he thanked his wife last night!! Ha!!) Dad, great patriot, Great Guy!!
Those are a few thoughts for you
Love Ya
Da BFF
Tracy
53 sleeps!!!!
You crack me up!!!!
I didn't get through the opening act! I thought if this is what country is turning into I don't want to watch it!!!! I will just listen to my good old country cd's. Country music just isn't what it used to be. I'm for change, but why change a good thing???? Loved reading your comments. Hugs!!
I love your comments!! You are proof that "fine minds think alike"! My husband sits with me during these shows and waits on what he calls my Play by Play comments. The only couple of things you and I don't agree on: 1.Kid Rock, get a life! Go back to the rockers. You couldn't make it there and Country doesn't need you! 2.My husband asked if Taylor Swift has a hip out of joint! She is a horrid performer and while they make her sound pretty good on records, LIVE performances are atrocious!! So off key and those are her songs!! AND PLEASE, someone do something with that mop on her head!! Yuck!! Entertainer of the Year lost it's luster this year! I love, love, love both of the hosts and almost all of the rest of the show except: The Judds! Naomi's face lift looks almost as bad as Priscilla Presley's and if the Alli diet makes you look as bad as Wynonna, I will stop it now!! They were scary! Back to the farm with both of them! You were right on with the "Devil" song but it will always belong to Charlie Daniels and no one else! I am so happy that someone else agreed with me on the CMA's! Now, when is the next award show coming on for our play by play analysis???
By the way, I do love your card!!!
