Brace Face

This 'n' That

14 Oct

Yep, that was one of the fun names I was called as a kid, as well as Dodds Kidney Pill, I was born a Dodds and then my Mum got re-married and we were adopted by my new Dad and then we had the last name of Fox. So that is why I have 2 Dads, well 3 if you count my Father-in-law. So when you see past posts and I have 2 Dad's pictured that is why.  I was also called Dog (going off the Dodds name, I guess they sounded alike – whatevah!) so it was fun to go from a Dog to a Fox – in name anyway..ha!

Anyway nicknames can be fun, I love being called "Di" that to me means friendship and comfort. My husband had a nickname of Gibber growing up (that did not stick), and Eric gets Gibby at school from the football guys, as well as old school friends that have since graduated. I am the worst cause I have called Eric, Monkey Face, since he was little, I only use it with him, I dont think I have ever said it in front of anyone. After we saw the movie Lonesome Dove, I started calling Jeff "Gus" cause he started using the word "poke" – if ya know what I mean!!!

There are also nicknames of things, like for instance there is something that I call Stevie and the Twins…you will just have to think of what I am talking about.  Kentucky Fried Chicken, turned into KFC and then they started really calling it that.  How about MickeyD's.  Target is Tarjay, the "F" word has somehow translated into friggin, frickin', flippin' or I have heard it like freakin', and you know what they mean, at least that is what my old brain is thinking…I  mean heck they even have a commercial on TV now and the guy says Freakin' Good Sandwich or something like that, so my head hears a swear word.  It is amazing what ya see on tv these days, I mean they used to not be able to show people drinking beer even in a beer ad, maybe that is still true, but gosh they sure show lots more "stuff" on tv then they used to. And we pay oodles of moolah to have cable and some days there is NOTHING on worth watching….hey how did I get on this topic…..reign it in Di….

Some nicknames, ya wanna be careful of ya know. I remember babysitting the cutest little girl years ago and her nickname was Frog….now that one ya hope people stopped calling her by the time she was 20!  Do you Raymond take Frog, I mean Rachel to be your lawful wedded wife!!! Ha!  But they stick…look at my girlfriend Terry (hey Cowgirl) her son's name is Wayne but when he was little he did not crawl, he scooted, so they called him Scooter,  we STILL call him that, and he is almost 20!

Brace face molly frontSo back to the old Brace Face, I was looking at my stamp set, and that cheesy grin and I thought, boy what straight teeth you have…you musta had braces!!!

So that is what I did, after I colored it, I took my black pencil crayon (in the states they are just called black pencil) in Canada we add crayon to the end.

So many people have said to me over the years, "that is not a crayon" but old habits die hard…see that nickname stuck! Oh and when I met my friend and fellow Demonstrator Debbie Sutton for the first time (hey sweetie) and her with her beautiful Canadian accent, and she said pencil crayon, I think I had tears in my eyes….she understood!!

Stamp Set: Today's Forecast, Window Dressing (which is a Level 3 Hostess set from SU!)

Paper: Very Vanilla, Muirfield Designer Series paper

Ink: Palette Hybrid Noir, Blush Blossom, Going Gray, Creamy Caramel, Baja Breeze, Pink Pirouette

Misc: Scallop punch, Vanilla Taffeta, Black Watercolor Pencil Crayon

Brace face molly close-up Now it looks like my smiley has a double chin, but actually I stamped him on the Very Vanilla first and I did not get a good impression, so then I stamped on a separate piece of paper, and colored him, cut him out and then dimensionaled dimensionalized popped him up on the top, so that is why the double chin is there, plus the camera angle didn't help, I was trying not to have it have that yellow tint I sometimes get… It is not as obvious in real life.

So anyway, I hope you have enjoyed Today's Forecast on Nicknames…what's yours?

Thanks for stopping in!

Hugs, Di

That is so funny! In my dad's family NO-ONE gets called by their given name…my uncle Noel is called George, Peter is Charlie, my dad Michael is Mick, Pauline is Polly….on and on it goes. They call me Blue…'cause when I was little it was my favourite colour and I refused to wear pink…I would throw and tantrum and scream, "NO, blue, blue, blue" and so now I'm 37 and still called Blue 🙂

Nicknames are Funny Steve's Dad and all his Brothers have odd nicknames Ones I never could get used to using, I may have been the only one who didn't call them by their nicknames. Ernie was Bugs, Martin is Nutt, Carl was Dewey, Jim is Stub(his wife gave him that one!), and Russ was Russ now how did that happen!!!!
My most favorite nickname was given to me by you!!! Everyone should have someone they call their "BFF" and I'm honored you always use it for "ME". Readers … Di even sends me mailings via BFF!!!!!!!
    I Love You, BFF!!!!

You are so funny! Love your blog! My nickname is Lish or Lishy derived from my sister not being able to get "Elizabeth" out of her little mouth when she was like 3. Only my family and a few really close friends from highschool that I still talk to use it. My daughters, Nicholette is Nickle, Hannah is Banana and poor Kiersten-nothing rhymes so I call her monkey butt (it's not meant to be mean!)Gotta love nicknames!

ha Stevie and the Twins – I haven't heard that one in a while!!!! Hope they are doing fine!!! Nicknames for me – well Foxy for a while in highschool and then Jake and now Jax – which I think is cool. But I'm gonna be called "late for dinner" if I don't get off here and get some stuff accomplished!

Among the many nicknames I have, growing up I was always "Spanky." (sounds kind of dirty now-haha)I call my boyfriend "Punkin," so in trying to stick with a theme, he started calling me "Gourd." It is strange, but he says it in this really cute voice, so it works.

LOL! All these nickname stories are great. I've always been Angie or Ange, short for Angelina. My hubby's family uses nicknames too. Paul in Booley, Patrick in Pon, Joe is To (pronounced toe), Rose is Lol (rhymes with roll), and Jacques is Tinin. They are variations of french words, but I don't know which ones! Great card, I love your Molly creations.

Hi, my name is Diana Gibbs and I have been a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator since 1999. I never imagined getting up and talking to people, I am deaf (I wear hearing aids) so talking to strangers has never been a fun thing for me. But put a rubber stamp in my hand and I will talk to anyone.

I hope you can find inspiration and learn new and exciting things while you are here. If there is ever anything you want me to teach you, just let me know!
