Fresh Cut Votive Candle Sleeve Tutorial

Tutorials/Tips

1 Jul

Today I am showing you how I did the sleeve for the votive that I showed in my blog a few days ago, and just like I talk it goes on and on, but I wanted to make sure you understood each step.  Pictures take a little longer to do then video, so I hope you can make it out.  I'm gonna keep the pictures all in a row and see if that helps if you end up printing it out.  Holler if you have any questions…ok!

What you will need:

Fresh cut notes (oops not pictured), cardstock vellum, Real Red cardstock scraps, Fresh Cuts stamp set, Basic Black pad, Five Petal Flower Punch, Three For You Punch, Pretties Half Back Pearls, Glue Dots, Snail, Stamp-a-ma-Jig, Bone Folder, and an approx. 4×4 Square Votive (it's a little smaller then that, like 1 dit before the 4×4 size) – I got mine at Walmart, they were $1.97 plus tax.

You will need to cut your cardstock vellum into 4 pieces.  2 pieces are 5 inches by 4 inches and 2 pieces are 4 inches by 4 inches.  Lay your vellum so the 5 inch side is along the bottom of your cutter. Score them 1/2 inch on each end.

So they look like this….you kinda made a lip on each end.

Apply snail to each of the 1/2 inch lips on the 5×4 inch pieces.

Now take one of your 4×4 pieces of vellum, and you are going to glue it to the lip of the 5×4 inch piece.

The picture is a little dark….sorry, but I think you know what I am getting at.

This is what it looks like after it is glued.

Now you want to glue the other 4×4 inch piece of vellum cardstock to the lip on the other side, and then you have this.

Then glue the other scored piece of 5×4 inch vellum cardstock to the two open ends and it will make a box…

…or more like a square tube….like totally square…..remember the show Square Pegs….it was like totally!!! I think it was the first show that Sarah Jessica Parker was ever on….ok….back to the tutorial…..

Put your like totally vellum square tube aside…ok I will like totally stop talking like that….

You need to cut off the back of the card, so just cut it at 4 inches, and it gets rid of the score line and leaves you with…

…this

Using your Stamp-a-ma-Jig…what? you don't have one? Well you want to call your Demonstrator and order one!  If you don't have a Demonstrator well ya can always call me.

Anyway, use your jig to get the image centered on your 4×4 card.

There, now trying doing that without a jig!

Using your Real Red cardstock, punch out 4 Five Petal Flowers, and 4 Three For You Flowers, also stamp in basic black the flower that comes in the Fresh Cuts set, you want four of them. You will cut these out with your snips.

You also will need 4 half back pearls.

This is what it looks like when you put it all together.  The 5 Petal Punch actually mounts behind the card. Does Stampin' Up! know what they are doing or what? See how that matches perfectly with the Fresh Cut Notes?  I have a little tear trickling down my cheek.  Yeah I cry at Hallmark commercials too. Don't take much, I'm an old sap!

Now just snail the decorated 4×4 Fresh Notes to the vellum square tube.  If you have to take it off the candle that is fine, you can really make sure you are gluing tight if you do. Decorate each side of the tube, that way everyone can enjoy it no matter where it sits in your room.

Ta!Da! All done.  If you go back a few days, you can see the post where I had it all lit up too!

The picture is a little deceiving, cause the vellum is just a tad bit taller than the votive. I think when I tilted it, it moved the vellum a little.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, sorry it was a long one.

Thanks for stopping in!  If my calculations are correct, I do believe that Blog Candy will be tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugs, Di

Very nice tutorial! That must have taken you some time to complete. Thanks for sharing! I have to tell you, I've just stumbled on your blog and have learned so much…like to not be drinking soda when I read about you and Johnny Cash, mingling with stars, and then bringing home the venison. {Snort} {Chortle} {Giggle} {Cough} {Choke} {Giggle} Fortunately, all 4 kids came a'runnin to check out what had their momma laughing so dang hard, in between slight choking fits. I so needed this belly laugh today! THANKS!

Hi, my name is Diana Gibbs and I have been a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator since 1999. I never imagined getting up and talking to people, I am deaf (I wear hearing aids) so talking to strangers has never been a fun thing for me. But put a rubber stamp in my hand and I will talk to anyone.

I hope you can find inspiration and learn new and exciting things while you are here. If there is ever anything you want me to teach you, just let me know!
