Mother Nature Sure Has a Sense of Humor!

This 'n' That

18 Jun

Well first off, this will be a quick post. I feel a summer cold coming on so I doctored myself up with some medicine and I am off to bed.

My old boss (Hey Jim!) grows tomatoes and he gave a special one to my girlfriend Teri, and she told me about it, and today she gave it to me.

I don't know whether it is a nose, or some sort of male anatomy…

OR…

dessert & fruit 004

…if you sit it this way…maybe it's a kickstand. Anyway, it sure is funny to look at. Makes me want to get my old Mr. Potato Tomato Head game out and add some eyes and arms. You say Potato, I say Tomato….ok the drugs are kicking in people….

Our neighbor Jim, not the same Jim as the tomato Jim, has this tree and it is called a Fruit-cocktail Tree, and the fruit is funny looking, kinda like a peach, but squattier and it tastes realldessert & fruit 008y good. My hubby and Jim can hardly wait every year for that fruit to ripen, or heck they don't even wait till it is soft they are already eating them.
Jeff was all excited tonight he had about 5 of them he set on the counter and he said "did you have one?" and I said "they aren't ripe yet" and he said "they don't have to be" so he picked me the "ripest" one and I ate it. Not bad, but it was crunchy and I think it coulda been riper.

So I made a new dessert today, got it out of the Country Weekly Magazine.  It was pretty good.  Jeff had to run over to the little Mexican Grocery dessert & fruit 001store down the road to get Ice Cream, I did not see that little tidbit of information on the recipe when I got the ingredients, and man were we glad for the Ice Cream, this dessert is rich…yeehaw!

Here goes:

Peach Crunch Cake

21 oz can peach pie filling

1 package yellow cake mix

1/2 cup toffee bits

1 stick (1/2 cup) butter cut into small pieces

1. Spread peach filling in a 9×9 inch baking pan.   2. Pour dry mix on top of fruit filling. Swirl with knife until cake mix is wet.  3.  Place toffee bits on top.   4. Dot with butter.   5. Bake in pre-heated oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.    6.   Let sit for a few minutes, dish it up and add a scoop of Ice Cream on top.

Yum! Let me know what ya think.  I'm thinking cherries would be good too.

Well I'm hittin' the hay y'all!  Thanks for stopping in!

Hugs, Di

I hope you can find inspiration and learn new and exciting things while you are here. If there is ever anything you want me to teach you, just let me know!
